Visiting Emmae's lair (The western hive 2)

The very large pale green drake was padding up towards the lair he had been to earlier, causing a great many quakes as he did so, and likely causing anything nearby to keep well at bay from him. He stopped at the steep cliff, tail gently wagging in thought before suddenly turning to face his back, on which was an incredibly large deer, "Keep hold tight, I'm gonna fly." He commented, which probably seemed odd until a human head weaved its way out from behind the deer to nod at him. "Could stab into your side if you really want me to hang on, but I'm sure I'll be fine Draken, I've flown with you before while carrying food." Draken chuckled and gave one powerful flap of his wings while leaping to help get him into the air, his flight was very laboured and when he reached the lair he was aiming for, it took him several moments to catch his breath. "This it?" The human asked, and since Draken was still catching his breath, he got a nod in response. Over Draken's should, the sun would be setting, just barely wavering over the horizon, soon to be replaced by dark night. What sunlight was left, Draken mostly blocked from entering the lair, due to his size. He peeked inside after catching his breath to see if the torches were lit.

Emmae would notice Draken's heavy footsteps anywhere. She was asleep, but only just. She growled in annoyance and slowly woke up. She stretched out and appeared at the entrance of her lair, in front of them seconds later, the torches lighting, everything quite suddenly. She hissed at him, couching a little, saying in an angry voice "What did I tell you about coming here again?!" She was careful to keep in line with Draken. She had an urge to try to pounce on him, but she knew if she would, it would be likely the end. She narrowed her eyes, which were blood red with anger, her sharp tail lashing. "Oh, and in case you hadn't forgotten, It is WAY too early to be disturbing me" She growled, baring her long sharp teeth.

The human leapt down and landed by Draken's side, taking a few moments to recover after the massive fall. He looked at Emmae warily and said, "This...is the friend you told me about Draken? She doesn't seem too friendly."

"Emmae...I know! Calm down please...I just wanted to see you before you left to hunt. And, anyways...I never said I wouldn't come back. Do you really expect me not to? And leave you all alone here?" Draken growled lowly, not trying to intimidate her but letting her know that he was agitated that she was trying to keep him away, "Let...yourself..have friends. You need them, you can't just stay alone up here. And you know I can't leave, I told you, I don't care if you killed someone, not anymore."

"Wait, she's killed someone?" The human asked, a bit unnerved. Draken simply nodded in response.

Emmae seemed even more angry that he had brought someone with him, and stepped back "Who the hell is this two-legs and what the hell is he doing here?!" She flapped her wings in frustration, obviously not too friendly to bipeds. She slowly raised her head, but still growling "I'm beginning to wonder if I will need to hunt out tonight, I could well eat in" She snarled "You need to leave before nighttime, which is in a few minutes... and never come back." She turned her head, her tail slowing down, and her eyes slowly cooling to orange "People like me don't have friends, I thought I told you that already. Now get out of my sight before I kill this disgusting human..." She flicked her tail and disappeared inside, but leaving the torches near the outside on. A rush of cold air would drift after she had left.

Draken growled deeper and stepped in front of the human when Emmae threatened him before saying, "Emmae....relax, don't make me have to hurt you. I brought the human because I trust you, if you would let me explain how that shows I trust you..." He didn't get to continue much further before she said she didn't have friends and left inside. He spread a wing over the human as the cold air swept against them and then cautiously took a step inside, "I'm not leaving by nightfall, and you know that Emmae. What is the problem with me staying here until night? I have done it before...can I explain the human to you at least?"

Emmae snorted and after a few minutes of pacing in her room, she appeared in front of them again "Alright, alright, fine! Just get on with it." She sat down and curled her tail up to her side, she was quite nervous by this time, and seemed to stare at Draken. Her voice softened, and she looked away from them both, to the floor. "You should leave soon though, at least... I can't stay with you much longer, like I said." She lay down and crossed her paws over, refraining from looking at either of them.

Draken snorted, "This will not take much explination..." he started before stating quite bluntly, "If the human dies, then I die. So...I'm trusting you with my life, okay?" He then tilted his head, "...Emmae, I'm not leaving you alone."

The human rubbed his shoulder uneasily. He was in gold armor that covered everything except for his head, "Why exactly do you want us to leave?" He was nudged by Draken as a gesture to stop talking.

Emmae raised an eyeridge, and snorted in annoyance "Right, that does it... I'm going to get a few more minutes sleep, and then I'm going out hunting, at which point, you better be gone. I want to be alone, thanks." She narrowed her eyes at the two-legs and growled "That's none of your business. Now see you" She said rather abruptly, standing up "I can't deal with something so annoying right now. I certainly don't want you to die, and it would be highly likely that you will anyway, even more so with that hanging around you..." She rolled her eyes waiting for them to say goodbye and leave, hopefully.

Hayate looks at the other dragon and frowns, "And what makes you think I would go down so easily? Besides, Draken seems to care about you, especially if he dragged me all the way out here and told you that..."

"Hayate...she could, she moves really fast." Draken assured him and then he told Emmae, "Please Emmae...I don't want to leave, okay? If you attack Hayate I'll defend him, that's my job, but please, don't make us leave Emmae. And if I'm defending Hayate, I'll do my best not to hurt you."

Emmae shook her head, and tensed up slightly "Look, you don't understand. If I attack any of you, I'll be risking my life, but I can't help it. I can't tell you why, but that doesn't matter. The point is you must leave soon or I won't be able to control myself, alright?" She began to sound almost scared, and she was shaking a bit. "Please... for all of our sake's... both of you must leave. Now." she began slowly stepping backwards in case they didn't "I'd rather not be here to tell you... so if you really want to know the truth, find the training ground around here, and ask what happened the night I killed my classmate..." She shuddered.

Draken looked at Emmae with a bit of desperation and said, "...Emmae! I don't care if you attack me. As long as you're not alone, and I'm not hurt too badly either. I don't think you'd kill me okay, and I can defend Hayate well if I need to...but, if you want, I will go to find out what happened. Can you lead me there? The training ground? You don't have to go there, but maybe it'll give you more of a chance to talk."

Emmae shook her head "As I said, you don't understand..." She sighed and looked away. "Fine then. Follow me..." She walked toward the entrance slowly, and ran off the edge of the cliff, dropping like a stone and flying off the opposite direction she would usually for hunting. She circled a large open patch of grass, lowered from the normal ground level, and nearby a lair. She doesn't dare land anywhere near. She just points to it "In there, ask around to find out, I guess probably everyone knows... They will still be there this time, don't worry..." She then powers off back to her lair, now noticeably away from the majority.

Hayate walked over to the ledge and asked, "Weren't you going to eat that deer Draken? Or did we bring it up here for no reason? And...your friend seems a bit unsure of herself is there a reason that she is like that? And is there any way you would like me to help with that Draken?"

Draken shakes his head, grabs Hayate in his jaws and set him on his back, "The deer...it may be for me, I wanted to see if she would take it though." He followed her out, now with the human on his back, and looked at the field, "Okay...I'll see you when you get back from hunting then..." He told her before heading to the spot she had indicated.

Emmae simply nodded in return. She really didn't want to see him after hunting, though it would be better then right now. She flew off and out of sight. In the lair would be a few dragons wandering about, just about all of them would know what happened that day. There would even be a faded and almost completely ruined picture of Emmae on one of the walls, fairly accurately drawn. There would be a sort of reception room, with a large red Dragoness standing behind it, sorting out some paperwork, as it seemed.

Hayate examined the surrounding, figuring that a human would not be welcome here and draping what looked like one of Draken's scales but was actually a cleverly hidden pouch over himself, Draken shifted at this so that Hayate could get himself comfortable. After this Draken walked up to the red dragon, bowing to most of the dragons he passed, despite the fact he would likely be larger than them, before pointing out the faded picture of Emmae and saying, "I have heard there was some kind of trouble with this dragon before? Would anyone care to explain it?"

Most of the dragons around would look at him as he said this, and at each other. The Dragoness behind the desk put the papers she was holding down and looked up at him "You really want to know? I mean... We rarely speak of it, unless we have to." She walked around the desk to get closer to him "Perhaps we should go somewhere else. Some of the young ones are still up, and I don't want them to hear." She lead them down a corridor. By this time, most of the others had left them to it.

Draken glanced back momentarily to make sure Hayate was okay, and hoped he did not seem suspicious, before turning to the other dragon, "Yes...I do in fact want to know, very much so. I have...run into, this dragon, and they told me something bad happened and they could not train to be a warrior anymore, they used the words 'taking a break' but it seemed a bit more suspicious than that." He used as little of the full truth as he could, not wanting the dragons to think he knew Emmae and use him to get to her, in case they would perhaps do so.

The dragoness swiveled around when he said he had ran into her "You really did? ..." She paused, and turned around, carrying on walking "Yes... I was in fact there that day..." She found an empty room and walked in. She sat down on her haunches. "You said you spoke to her... did she not tell you herself?" She tilted her head "...I didn't know she hesitated to say one word to anyone.., I'm surprised you came back alive, really" She looked at the ground and shook her head "She's a menace, you know, I wouldn't go back to her, I don't want to risk anyone getting hurt or killed, especially the way that poor young dragon did.." She looked back up at him. "Well, if you take a seat, I will tell you... It is a big deal to us, if you hadn't noticed already."

Draken shook his head, "I was intimidating her, she didn't really say much to me, I suppose it's why I came back alive as well, wouldn't you say?" He commented, trying to give off as little association with Emmae as it was obvious they would take advantage of his connection to her if they could. He growled lightly and snorted when she was called a menace, but hoped that the dragoness would think this was from his agreement rather than anything else. "Go ahead, I'm listening."

She nodded "I see, well a big drake like you probably would scare her, yes." She sighed and curled her tail to her side, obviously uncomfortable on the topic "Well... It was one day a couple of years ago, actually. Her and another dragoness were training alone one day, which I thought was rather odd, since they both hated each other's guts, so I watched to see that nothing bad was going to happen. Unfortunately, it did. After a while of them harmlessly sparring, I decided to get on with my own work... and when I got back... The little monster had gone, and her rival was lying on the floor, dead... She had no wounds but bite marks on her neck, which had killed her..." She looked down and shook her head "Not only that, but after, we took the body to be examined, since it seemed that a bite as small as the one she had would not have killed her. She..." She looked back at Draken before continuing "She had no blood left in her entire body... It was horrible..." She shuddered at the memory "Since then, there have been no more attacks on people, but we don't want anyone near her. Of course, we want her gone, but no-one, not even the elders want to risk going up there." She looked away slightly and shut her eyes.

Draken's head tilted a bit from the news and he stared at the other for a while, trying to imagine how painful it must be to have all blood taken out of your body. Thinking it must have been a horrible way to go. "At least she didn't get eaten..." Draken said a bit somberly, although it was an attempt at a joke. He then added, "And I know it must be hard after what happened, but would you mind not saying monster around me. I mean, using that term for her." He asked, trying to make it seem as though this was consideration for him rather than Emmae. He then added, for good measure, "I can assure you that you will not hear from her again...if you don't hear from me within the week, you should probably leave her be. I'm a trained warrior, may be a bit old now, but I'm sure I can handle it...you will know just how dangerous she is soon." He gave the other a reassuring smile, hoping that his story would be believed, and that they would not insist in joining him.

She nodded "Yeah... It must have been... terrifying too..." She stared at the floor "Eaten? Why would you say that?" She frowned, and even more so when he asked her not to say monster as a term for Emmae "But she is... really..." She looked up at him then nodded "Alright alright, whatever... I'm glad to hear you say that we wont see her again..." She raised an eyeridge "Meaning... you're going to go to see her again? Why?" She shook her head "We will leave her be until we find a weakness, we rarely see her, so it's hard to tell..." She nodded "Alright then... I won't get involved... glad you understand." She bowed her head.

Draken thanked the dragoness and waited for her to leave before following out, he heading into the area outside the rooms again and prepared to take off before saying, "Hayate...you may come out now." The human carefully lifted the edge of the scale and climbed out and back onto Draken's back, "You're right...that silly little thing did come in handy..." He told Draken with a chuckle before saying, "Now from your words I assume we're going back to see your bloodsucking friend?" Draken nodded, "For better or for worse...at least we know more about what we're getting into, if she hated the other hatchling, maybe there's more to tell..." He lifted into the air and made for Emmae's lair again, landing by the entrance and waiting for her to return from her hunt.

She nodded and stood up "Glad you came to hear the story, you can't trust her, okay?" She walked out and back to her desk, watching Draken out before getting on with her work.

Emmae would be back a couple of hours earlier than usual today. She appeared at the entrance and sighed when she saw them there "Look, I don't want to talk about it, or hear your words of hate. Just leave me alone." She growled lowly and stepped aside so they could go away.

Draken said nothing and followed in after her, sniffing the air for her if the torches were not lit. He would then explain, "I don't have any words of hate, you drained all the blood out of someone's body. It is odd, and it is cruel, but...I shouldn't hate you for it. And...I trust you would not do the same to me, or Hayate. Still, I would like to know, why? And also, how?" He would reach forward to nuzzle her before adding, "But Emmae, I do not hate you, for what you've done...that one time I was being utterly stupid...as I said before, when I introduced Hayate, I would trust you with my life. I know you are fast enough to kill him before I could react, but I do not think you would...you are my friend. And hopefully you can be Hayate's friend too, although he doesn't seem to share my sentiments at the moment."
